One year ago today, I wore my white coat for the first time, stepped onto the stage and said: “Every cry, every laugh, every low, every high, every rejection, and every redirection has brought me to this point”. I still wouldn’t change my journey for the world. 365 days at the hospital later, I feel the weight of those words even more. This past year has taught me things no textbook ever could. I’ve held patients’ hands before surgery. I’ve listened to their fears in the middle of the night. I’ve watched families cry with relief… and others with grief. I’ve scrubbed in, spoken up, stayed late, and showed up even on the hard days. And somewhere in all of that, I found my why. Today, I received my final report for med 3. I passed all of my rotations: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, OBGYN, and Psychiatry. It hasn’t been easy. But it has been possible. To the girl who once wondered if she was enough, look at you now! Med 4, I am so ready! To anyone who feels behind, uncertain, or stuck: you’re still becoming. Keep going! You got this! Premed Gayyoula!! You’re going to become a doctor in a year🥹!!!!!!!
