Croc vs Gator!! This is my commentary on an American crocodile attacking an American alligator in Everglades National park. Florida is the only place in the world with both alligators and crocodiles native, and I’ve seen them sharing the same pond before. They won’t kill each other for looking different like humans do and generally treat each other as they would another of their own species- this does mean reacting territorially or defending a nesting location, which might explain what’s happening here. Some basic difference-gators have a more round broad snout, crocs more narrow, gators are usually in fresh water and crocs in salt/brackish BUT you can find either anywhere, I’ve seen crocs in full fresh and gators in hyper saline or ocean. The croc in this video is living in fresh water with gators. Crocs can drink saltwater and excrete it, gators can’t but they go in the ocean like people do, just to visit but not stay. Gators are usually darker, crocs lighter, gators usually have only top row of teeth exposed and crocs have both showing. The original video is by Taylor Bonachea via Storyful. #Educational #Animals #Alligator #Crocodile #Everglades #scicomm
Big tortoise butt scratches!! Many people are surprised to learn that tortoises can actually feel through their shells. Though it may look like a hard, lifeless shield, a tortoise’s shell is made of bone and covered in scutes—plates made of keratin, like human fingernails. The shell is connected to the tortoise’s spine and ribcage, and it’s rich with nerve endings, allowing the animal to sense touch, pressure, and even pain. When you gently rub or scratch a tortoise’s shell, it often responds by stretching out or leaning into the touch, showing just how sensitive and alive this bony armor truly is. ~~If you would like to donate to the care of the sanctuary animals, we greatly appreciate any support!! How to get something out of a gator’s jaws!!! Big Mac got a hold of this foam block during X-rays, so I employed my flooding technique to get it out! Watch today’s Vlog to see the full X-ray procedure and the rest of the vet work!! This is actually a combo of flooding and waiting for him adjust, my two most recommended for getting an object or body part out of the jaws!! I have a whole long video on my GatorChris YT channel going over this if you want to learn more! Also a good demonstration of the reflexes needed for this game!
After vanishing from the Earth nearly 10,000 years ago, the legendary dire wolf has taken its first steps into the modern world—thanks to Colossal Biosciences @itiscolossal . Using cutting-edge genetic engineering, scientists reconstructed the dire wolf’s genome from ancient DNA and successfully brought three pups to life: Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi. These pups, carried to term by domestic dog surrogates, mark a groundbreaking moment in de-extinction science. Unlike their name might suggest, dire wolves weren’t just oversized gray wolves—they were a distinct and powerful species that ruled the Ice Age. Now, through a blend of ancient biology and modern innovation, they’re back. This is INSANE and hard to even wrap my head around, and imagine the future possibilities with this tech!! I’ll also be posting a long form video discussing this later!! Follow @itiscolossal to see the pups grow. #direwolf #deextinction #scicomm #science
Angelous being a smart boy and doing great with his training! This video really demonstrates stick technique, reflexes, and the need to be fast on your feet!! I know people will be worried about me hurting the croc, checkout my vlogs where I also explain proper stick technique where I am using the stick to touch specific points on the animal to move it, this is not hurt the animal and I never swing or strike at the animal with the stick. ~~If you would like to donate to the care of the sanctuary animals, we greatly appreciate any support!! Our first time practicing a mock voluntary blood draw with Dino! For the first time, he actually did pretty well! Repeating this will hopefully get him comfortable enough for the real thing down the line. When we first caught Dino he had a horribly infected leg & was largely unresponsive, which after multiple vet visits we learned he was also suffering from lead toxicity due to a lead fishing weight being stuck in his GI tract with a hook. After a lot of care, and a lot of moments thinking he wasn’t going to make it, and a lot of moments of him trying to kill me as we pulled him out for treatment, he’s doing much better! We still need to do chelation therapy to remove the lead trapped in his tissues, and surgery to remove the lead weight, but for now we’re just trying to get more weight on him to be able to survive the treatments. We’re giving him thiamine in his food to prevent the uptake of the lead currently in his system. If you’d like to learn more about the treatment plan and all the details, check it out on my GatorChris channel on the “main video app” I can’t name because of the algorithm. ~~~Our rescue gators are wild caught nuisance gators that would’ve otherwise been destroyed. Gators can become “eye shy” when they’ve been hit or beaten with sticks. It’s always very sad for me to work with an animal from another facility that has been hit, it’s so very obvious in how they’ll flinch and react to anything near their faces. This is why I’m always preaching proper use of sticks and other tools when working with animals. ~~~Our rescue gators are wild caught nuisance gators that would’ve otherwise been destroyed. Dinosaur walk🐊 That belly skin almost got them wiped out though! Alligators were once on the brink of extinction due to relentless hunting for their highly prized skin, which was used to make luxury leather goods. By the mid-20th century, unregulated hunting had decimated populations, pushing the American alligator to the edge of survival. Recognizing the crisis, the U.S. government placed alligators under federal protection in 1967, banning hunting and implementing conservation programs. Through habitat protection, anti-poaching laws, and the introduction of sustainable farming, wild alligator numbers rebounded so successfully that they were removed from the endangered species list in 1987. ~~~Our rescue gators are wild caught nuisance gators that would’ve otherwise been destroyed. Gator trying to bite me in the face! Nah it’s just Casper feeling around while I blow bubble rings at him. I mean, he would bite me in the face if I didn’t move out of the way, when he does this he has his eyes closed and is feeling around underwater. When feeling around like this he relies on his integumentary sensory organs(the little black dots), which often causes him to snap as I have demonstrated in many videos. These sensors have been shown to be 10X as sensitive as human fingertips! I took this video last year but it’s been being shared a bit so I’m resharing. ~~~If you enjoy the video, PLEASE SHARE!! Getting the educational content out there is our best bet to get people to care about and want to help wildlife! ~~~Remember all the gators you see me working with are rescue nuisance gators, caught from the wild as big as you see them now! The state kills 7k-8k each year. This video just came up in my memories from last year at Everglades Outpost. —-Reminder- Casper lives at the outpost, he is not my gator, and I now have my own animal sanctuary I’ve dedicated my life to that I’m at full time that is 12hrs roundtrip drive away so I do not see Casper anymore. I’m honestly hesitant to even share my memories videos like this because of how crazy and rude people get about this topic, so PLEASE be respectful. 2 gators trying to break into a Florida home?! No, actually, that’s not what’s happening at all, contrary to the articles online. The gator claiming the door here is trying to escape and get away from territorial gator on the ground, clearly in angry gator posture! This has nothing to do with either wanting anything to do with humans or the house! Just gators being gators in a territorial dispute. The sad part is this human home was likely a swamp where the gators freely lived not that long ago, and the gators are just trying to survive in their ancestral homeland that is rapidly being destroyed as a staggering ONE THOUSAND HUMANS PER DAY move to the state of Florida. This unsustainable and unchecked urban sprawl is destroying the state’s natural habitats and ecosystems. #animaleducation #Animals #Animals #CuteAnimals #educational #Gator #Alligator #crocodile #nilecroc #nilecrocodile #reptile #scicomm #rescuegator
