Place some ice cubes at the corners of your rug and as it melts the fibres of your rug will slowly absorb the melting ice relaxing and weighing down the rug. You can also place something heavy on top as it melts. I’ve had the jute scalloped rug in the entry way for almost four years and have tried everything from weighted objects to rug tape and duct tape, nothing has worked until this ice cube rug hack! I love decorating with brass accents. My collection has been growing steadily over the past eight years. Here are some of my favourite brass finds. I can’t speak about brass without mentioning my late friend @Jamie. I bought a lot of brass from her and also inherited some of my favourite pieces you see in this video from her collection. When I was first invited to her home, I admired the leg bottle openers and thought they were the coolest things. I asked her to keep an eye out for me and she surprised me with a pair! They’re one of my most prized possessions. The sakura wall hanging use to hang in her bedroom and I was gifted it when she passed. It hangs in our dining room and I think she’d love how it makes the gallery rail. It is such a unique and pretty piece. Even the candle snuffer was a house warming present from her! I think I finally grew into this style. When she gifted it to me, my home was very boho but I’d like to think she knew where my style was heading. The little jewelry box was one I got with K from our trip to Kentucky for his bourbon hunting tour. It makes me so happy and I keep my daily jewelry in here. I use it everyday. The brass plant spritzer was one of my last purchases from Jamie. I’ve always wanted one and when she released some of these pieces, I was quick enough to snag one. The thrill of the hunt and chase for wish list items is still unmatched. And finally one of my most asked about item when it shows up on screen~ the soap caddy. It’s sourced from @The Apartment Life and I bought it before we even moved into this home. I just knew it would make whichever bathroom it ended up in and I think it really does. But as I grow older, I have learned to appreciate and love the boldness and cheerfulness of the decor. We decorate with red because it is an auspicious colour said to bring good fortune and welcome luck. But it’s was also believed to ward off evil so you’ll see a lot of people wear and decorate with red before the Spring Festival! It’s not just the colour that is symbolic but all the motifs you see are also rife with meaning. The firecracker pendants we decorate with is meant to be a nod to the fireworks that are launched on New Year’s day to drive away evil and to welcome the new year. The fish motif is used a lot because the word fish in Chinese sounds like the word abundance so we’ll eat fish and decorate with fish motifs! You’ll see a lot of cheery and plum blossoms with red envelopes or red charms hung on the branches because it is a tree that will bloom in the harshest winter. It represents the hope and promise of life even in the midst of hardship. All the couplets and phrases you see being hung on door frames and walls all say wonderful well wishes and blessings to those who enter your home. Everything is beautiful to me now because of the richness in culture and tradition. I have come to love decorating for Chinese New Year and love sharing it with you! Chinese New Year is around the corner and one of the things we have to accomplish before the new year is clean the house! Did you know that the word dust in Chinese sounds like old? So when we sweep away all the dust, we are symbolically sweeping away the old and all the bad fortune or bad luck with it. Lunar New Year is on January 29 so you better get on it! I felt like this was more like a mind reset than it was a kitchen reset. Saturday mornings are chore days for me when the house gets cleaned, the laundry gets done and the bathrooms get scrubbed. During the week it gets crazy over here and I tell myself I’ll clean and put things away on the weekend. I actually look forward to it and somewhat dread it at the same time. But then I saw @Steph Bae video this week and was inspired to do this too. I love how she makes it clear that we can be simultaneously grateful but also acknowledging that we can find life can be hard too.
