READ THIS FOR CONTEXT: Whilst sailing across the Pacific, we pulled into a remote island to escape a storm. We found three French sailors, that had been stranded in the island for weeks. Although a small community lived there, there was no airport or ferry, and the supply ship hadn’t been for weeks. We were their only way off the island, and obvs we weren’t going to leave them there. So, we went from 2 to 5 crew for the next 200 mile passage to Tonga. Replying to @YeetosTheChild After pulling into this remote island to escape a storm, we discovered these three French castaways with a crazy story. Although a small community lived on the island, there was no way for them to leave, and we had to decide whether we would rescue them (obviously we did), and sail 200 miles to the next group of islands. Picking up three absolute strangers, and sailing with them for days, was probably the biggest risk we took whilst sailing across the Pacific. Thankfully these French castaways were very chill, and also grateful that we rescued them from a remote island with no airport or ferry. The nearest town was 200 miles away, and on the way, we couldn’t resist stopping off at a remote reef for a surf. @Maddie Chapman #sailaroundtheworld #southpacific #sailing #surfing #travel #southpacific #waves #fyp #foryou
