“I was 22 years old and I had gone out partying. It was 3am and the club was closing. I got behind the wheel of my car and attempted to make it home while being intoxicated. I ended up losing control of my vehicle and crashing my car into the patio of a nightclub. I collided with innocent people. It was presumed at the scene that I had died, the estimated time of death had been written on my arm. An officer came over to identify who I was. When he reached inside, he brushed up against my leg and I gasped for breath. I was taken to the hospital where I would inevitably find out what I had done. I was facing 95 years in prison and was all but hopeless. I was consumed with guilt and wished that I had died.  In December, I walked in front of the judge and was graced with an 8 year prison sentence. While I was incarcerated, I tried to find some kind of purpose in all of the pain. I decided to give back in any way I could and try to help others not make the same mistakes I once made. I spoke out on a crime prevention team of inmates for 2 years, sharing my story all over. I was released 7 years later and it was the happiest day of my life. Then I allowed Satan to take me down even further. I began using hard drugs and nearly died every day for 2 years. I was a lost soul. One day I sought help. I called my best friend, who was a drug counselor and she suggested that I move to her hometown and she would help me. So, I did. When I got there, my friend introduced me to her brother, and he helped me restart my life. He said he heard Jesus say to him, “Do everything you can to help her.” He took me to A.A. meetings daily; he helped me find a job; we attended church every Sunday. We ended up getting married, and now have 3 children. I have been sober for almost 7 years. I sing on my church’s worship team, and I love Jesus more than anything else in this world. He is why I am alive, free, have a family and have joy, peace, and hope.
