Back in January, we assisted with a large rescue mission: a hoarding case of backyard bred Frenchies and mixed breeds. Overall 20 dogs were saved, and my rescue took on 10 of them. We had them all fully vetted and fixed. They had ear infections and many of them required stenotic nare surgery to help them breathe better. They are all a reminder of the horrors behind backyard breeding and the importance of never supporting irresponsible breeders. Eight of them found amazing local homes and two transported to rescue partners where they were also adopted. I couldn’t be happier for these babies to only know love and spoils from now on.
Tomorrow I turn 33 years old which means I have officially been rescuing dogs for 11 years. Here’s a little of the story behind how I got involved in rescue. In 2014, I was a senior in college when I picked up my first foster. A tiny puppy left in a dumpster. My friend adopted him, and I fell in love with the process of fostering. The rest is history. _ Follow @caitiesfosterfam for more rescue pups and their glow-ups! #rescue #foster #caitiesfosterfam #dogrescue

The “behind the scenes” of running a rescue can be truly brutal. I see the absolute worst of humanity and the cruelty they do to animals. I see dogs starving, beaten, injured on the streets, you name it. I am out at all hours picking up dogs from horrific situations. I am walking euthanasia lists having to decide who we can save and who we can’t. I am on the receiving end of hate because someone didn’t get picked to adopt a dog or because I couldn’t “rescue” their dog they want to get rid of fast enough. But the dogs remind me every day why it’s worth it. And I will keep letting my heart break over and over so theirs don’t have to. #caitiesfosterfam #rescue #CFFsiggi #shelter #foster #houston #houstonrescue
