.😩”No one told me how to PUSH!!” Common words after birth from #firsttimemom 👍🏻PUSHING is PHYSICS‼️Stack your diaphragm over your pelvic floor and push towards the extreme rectal pressure. That is your baby’s head causing the extreme rectal pressure. (Your baby does not come out of your rectum.). 🌹The vagina will open up downwards as baby head moves down and out, directly below your body. The vagina aligns itself directly under your diaphragm and pelvic floor. The baby’s head presses the colon and rectum closed upon delivery. 🚫Tucking your chin and curling over your baby holding your breath while someone counts to ten as you bare down is epidural pushing also known as “purple face pushing”. If you are curling over your baby or arching your back you are throwing off the force and pushing is less effective. This leads to longer labor and pushing stage! ✅Stack your diaphragm over your pelvic floor and sit into it towards the extreme rectal pressure creating greater force. Rotate your knees closer together and ankles out no matter your body position!! .OBLIQUE👶🏽hasn’t finished the rotation yet or keeps popping back up into this position. What to do? This one is for 38+ weeks with an oblique baby. 🔷Loosen up the thighs by gently jiggling them. Your partner will need to help you with this technique. At least 2-3 minutes each leg. Place block between stacked knees and stacked ankles. 🔷Deep squat hold practicing diaphragmatic breathing with isometric hold into inner thighs. Assisted deep squat hold works too. 🔷Deep squat hip openers. Another option is sitting on toilet with knees higher than hips. 🔷Hip rockers sets of 10-15 each leg 🔷Lateral lunges kneeling, standing or on birth ball 10-15 each leg 🔶It’s all about loosening up the top of pelvis and mid pelvis to encourage baby to put their head down there. “Why didn’t my body dilate?” Is a common question I get. Could be several reasons why... One reason why could be a baby’s head position on the cervix. Sometimes babies try to descend through the pelvis with a tilted head, also known as ascenlytic. The head is not well applied to the cervix so there is no or very slow cervical change leading to an extremely long, arduous labor. ♦️BRAXTON HICKS VS. LABOR CONTRACTIONS Both are a contraction or tightening of the uterus which is a muscle. ♦️Braxton Hicks contractions are toning of the uterus or thirsty muscle. They last under 30 seconds, may or may not have discomfort and can be all over the belly or localized to an area of the belly. No pattern to them and usually happens randomly. Dehydration is the most common reason for these contractions but not limited to this reason. ♦️Labor contractions are the body warming up and contractions to help a baby move through the pelvis and across the finish line. The most typical labor contraction will start in your lower back, wrap around to the front, peak with intensity and fade away. Labor contractions will establish a pattern, get closer together, last longer and become more intense the closer you get to meeting your baby. Labor contractions may not be limited to this sensation. There are variables that can cause a labor contraction to feel different like dehydration, exhaustion, lack of food, your laboring position, your baby’s laboring position to name a few. . 💧BULGING BAG of WATER during LABOR. Your water has not released. There is water between the amniotic sac around your baby and baby’s head. 🔥When you have a contraction the baby’s head presses downwards and the bulging water sac can be seen on the outside of the vagina. Sometimes you will see baby hair floating within. (It can also bulge within the vaginal canal.) 💧YOUR WATER WILL RELEASE WHEN IT IS INTENDED TO RELEASE!! The water naturally releases 8-10 centimeters and before baby is evicted out of their 9 month living quarters. 💧When the water breaks, baby’s head can make its appearance shortly afterwards to cross the finish line. 👐🏼Sometimes a provider can get handsy and want to pop it. I highly recommend to speak up, have your voice be heard and say no thank you. It will break when it’s intended to break!! 💯Very cool phenomenon to see during birth!! Providers like to see👶🏽head down by 32 weeks. 40% of👶🏽will still be breech at 32 weeks. This is normal. 96-97% of👶🏽will find their way head down the last 6-8 weeks of pregnancy. 💥Our society has a bad outlook on breech babies being born vaginally. Why? It’s a lost skill set that is no longer trained in the medical field. When one has no training or knowledge in a subject it is feared. Expecting moms are sacred into cesarean birth with a breech baby because the provider does not have the vaginal breech skill set. They fear the process and pass that fear along to their expecting parents. 🌟Breech baby is a variation of normal and can be born vaginally with a provider competent and comfortable in the skill set. If you want a natural birth experience and your baby decides to be born breech, find a competent, confident provide in vaginal breech. Most will be looking for a midwife!! 👏🏻You can encourage your baby to be head down by creating space for baby during pregnancy daily. Baby knows instinctively to be head down.
