The beauty of using dumbbells is that you do not need to maintain a strictly pronated grip when you press. I’m willing to make a bet that all of you doing dumbbell lateral raises without a chest supported are using momentum — just to varying degrees of course. Thst is why I think the chest supported dumbbell lateral raise is the best dumbbell lateral raise variation. It’s stable enough to actually prevent you from cheating as you approach failure — at least compared to non chest supported dumbbell lateral raises.
